Olympic efforts at Norwich Triathlon

Seven members of King’s Lynn Triathlon Club were in action at Norwich last weekend: four taking on a sprint distance and three tackling the Olympic event both held at Whitlingham Country Park. The sprint swim was 750m in the broad, followed by an 18k bike and 5k run around the lake. First home for the club’s men was Sean Sands in a time of 1.20.28 and Kelly de Gol was first KLTC woman across the line in 1.20.22. Mark Gaskins and Anna Seaman finished in 1.32.53 and 1.28.23 respectively. Jamie Sparrow was first club man home at the Olympic distance finishing in 15th place overall. He finished the 1500m swim, 38k bike and 10k run in 2hrs 14 minutes, marking a five minute PB for him at this event and earning him fifth in his age category of 35-39. Nicky Roger suffered a puncture on the bike route causing her to lose valuable time but finished in a time of 2.33 placing her eighth female and second in her age category. Doig passes Celtman high altitude test

King’s Lynn Triathlon Club members put in great performances in events that show the variety of triathlon challenges. Alistair Doig completed the extreme triathlon, the Celtman. Set in Wester Ross, Scotland, this tough challenge sees triathletes from all over the world test themselves in extreme terrain and weather conditions in the Torridon mountains. Doig endured cold water for the 3k swim in Loch Shieldaig before tackling 2000m of climbs on the 202k bike leg finishing with a 42K run over mountains that reach an altitude of 1,010m. He finished in a little over 15 hours. At Fritton Lake, in the Viking half ironman distance race, Sue George and Colin Simpson both qualified for the European Middle Distance European championships in Majorca in October. Sue crossed the line in 6hrs 36mins placing her fourth woman and second in her age group (50-55) while Colin came in at 5hrs 45mins finishing first male in his (60-65) age category. Six club members were in action at the Monster Sprint in Feltwell: a 450m lake swim, 21km bike and 4km run.
