The club currently holds turbo sessions at Flitcham Village Hall. Check out the video below to see what a turbo session looks like. Thanks to Basingstoke Tri Squad for the video.
What is Turbo Training?
Turbo training is a cycling session, usually performed indoors on a turbo trainer or rollers. These pieces of equipment make it possible to cycle indoors without moving forward. The rear wheel is raised off the ground slightly allowing the rider to cycle.
These sessions are commonly used by triathletes and cyclists to improve fitness and cycling technique during the winter months. Especially when conditions outside are not great!
On a turbo trainer you can maintain a high intensity without having to stop/start like you would on a road ride.
Ensure you have a good amount of fluids as you will sweat quite a bit. Energy bars or other items are good for energy with longer rides.
What do I need?
The following items are required to take part in the turbo session:
- A bike.
- A Turbo trainer
- 2 towels. You do sweat quite a bit. One goes under the bike and one is for yourself!
- Some fluid. See above
What does it cost?
Currently the prices are set depending on your relationship to the club.
- KLTC member – £2
- Member of another running/cycling club we work with – £3
- Everyone else – £4
How hard is the turbo session?
As with everything, it’s as hard as the amount of effort you put into it. Sessions are based on intensity rather than distance. This means everyone can join in as all our ‘Level 8’s are different.
If you’ve got the required equipment you can take part. We want to see all abilities.
When do the sessions take place?
Check out the training schedule to see when they are happening.
