National Club Relay Championships

Over the weekend, the club took 4 teams to compete at the National Club Relay Championships held at The National Watersport Centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham.

This was our first attempt at a National competition with the club only being formed 8 months ago. The field itself is tough and littered with pro athletes, but there is a fun, festival atmosphere around the weekend.

The event consists of a 500m swim, 15k bike and a 5k run. Each person completes one part before tagging the next person

The womens teams went first on Saturday afteroon. We had 2 womens teams in total which was a great result for our club. There were plenty of fast teams and pros in attendance for this race!

Womens A

The Womens A team consisted of Sue George (captain), Nicky Roger, Jane Holmes and Geraldine Jordon. The team performed well and held their own throughout the event with a finish time of 4.30.17. The team finished 119 in their category and 147th overall in the event.

The time would have been quicker but Sue was not feeling at her best but ensured she managed to get round so the rest of the time could carry on, so cheers Sue!

Sue George, 79.51. Nicky Roger, 60.09. Jane Holmes, 64.32. Geraldine Jordon 64.18.

Fastest swim: Sue George

Fastest bike: Nicky Roger

Fastest run: Nicky Roger

Womens B

The Womens B team consisted of Stina Thorarinsson (captain), Anna Seaman, Emma Thompson and Tamlin Hegarty. Some of the members were new to triathlon with this being their first season and also new to Open Water swimming this year, so it was a big achievement taking part in a National Event.

Womens B were in last place on the run, but thanks to great running from all 4 team members they moved up around 6 places to finish 159 overall and 128 in their category.

Stina Thorarinsson 68.47. Anna Seaman 73.00. Emma Thompson 67.28. Tamlin Hegarty 76.28

Fastest swim: Emma Thompson (her first open water swim event!)

Fastest bike: Stina Thorarinsson (fastest overall bike split for the women. Same pace as Nicky Roger but the first cyclist had a longer bike)

Fastest run: Tamlin Hegarty (Anna Seaman took a massive 90 seconds off her 5k PB at the end of this event so well done to her!)

Sunday saw the mens teams lock horns over the same course and distance.

Mens A

Mens A was a strong lineup with Andy Fillmore, Simon Light, Ben Smith and Chris Workman. They boys set themselves a goal of a 3.30 which would place them comfortably up the leader board. They narrowly missed out on this, coming home in 3.34 but this put them 5th in their category and 46th overall. For a brand new club this is a fantastic result and we couldn’t have imagined they’d have done this well.

While all the chaps had quick elements, Andy Fillmore excelled in the swim in 6.45 while Chris Workman put in a hugely impressed bike shift in 22.51, both times of which were amongst the quickest of the weekend.

Andy Fillmore, 51.21. Simon Light, 52.12. Ben Smith, 56.09, Chris Workman 53.31.

Fastest swim: Andy Fillmore

Fastest bike: Chris Workman

Fastest run: Andy Fillmore

Mens B

Mens B was a mixture of youth (Tayo) and experience (Dave!) with Alistair who is new to the sport, alongside Mark Germany. The team did really well with good times from all 4 in different areas which placed them 90th in their category and 125th overall with a finish of 4.09. The team competed well all day.

Tayo Willett, 61.27. Mark Germany, 66.38. Alistair Doig, 57.17. Dave Neale, 62.05.

Fastest swim: Tayo.

Fastest bike: Alistair

Fastest run: Alistair (20.57 which was a great time!)

Many thanks to all the team captains for marshalling their troops superbly and a huge well done to the athletes who represented the club brilliantly in our first season! We will back next year with even more teams.
